James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
The spirit of the world is one of independence and pride. Man boasts in being self made and self sufficient, yet this is the very attitude God resists. God gives grace to humble people who submit or bow their desires, thoughts, plans and emotions the Gods word and will. At the same time as believers we need to fight against every attitude, thought or desire that opposes the word of God and is a lie from the devil. This submission and resistance goes hand in hand but the submission comes first. Only when we completely yield to the Lord will we have victory over the enemy because he will have nothing to tempt us with.
