Psalm 49:20 Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish.
This Psalm recounts the foolishness of man and the foolishness in putting trust in man.  Man's life is like a short breath.  All he is and all he has done is forgotten.  God alone endures through all time, unchanging and marvelous and awesome is He.  People put a lot of praise and hope in politicians, celebrities, sports heroes, and the rich.  On earth power, personality, beauty and money earns a person respect and a following.  The fact is, a person's earthly status has no bearing in eternity.  Let us put our focus of praise and confidence in the mighty power of Jesus.  Fearing man brings a snare but those who trust in the Lord will never be shaken.
