Jan 29-Feb 1

Feb 1. John 20:29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
It is human to want proof before believing in something.  We want to see, touch, feel and taste with our senses in order to trust something with our time, money, energy and affection.  A girl wants a ring before she will say her vow.  A skydiver wants a parachute before jumping.  When it comes to faith we do not have to take a blind leap.  Our solid conviction is on the unchanging word of God which is more real than what we sense in the natural realm.  This is how we can believe without seeing.

Jan 31. Phil 3:17 Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.
After this passage Paul goes on to speak of his warnings of tears of those who lead the flock away from Christ.  He gives himself as an example of the faith that they should both watch and imitate.  Who are we watching today?  Many have their eyes on the actions of the top celebrities, politicians or big-name preachers.  The people we admire and watch we begin to act like in word, dress, attitude and walk.  Let us fix our eyes on Christ and those who serve him with all confidence, meekness  and humility.

Jan 30.  Phil 2:20 For I have no one like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. 21 For they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.
Paul was speaking about how Christ became obedient to death and then changed the conversation to sending the congregation a teacher.  Paul told them that Timothy was his best recommendation due to his unselfishness and genuine care for the flock.  These are wonderful qualities to aspire to and look for in a pastor.  It is easy to get caught up in building a personal empire, reputation or ego-fed enterprise.  Others have great passions for social justice, personal hobbies and favorite theologies.  Let us strive like Timothy to be about serving Christ and His people even above our own desires.

Jan 29.  Eph 6:18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
After having put on the armor of God, Paul instructs us to pray always.  When we are in continual conversation with God, we will not be sidetracked by other forces trying to speak lies and distractions.  When we pray in the Spirit, we pray the perfect will of God and confuse the demonic forces around us.  Prayer keeps us alert to what God is doing and saying and what He wants to do in the earth.  Adopt prayer as your lifestyle today instead of activities that stifle your desire to talk to God.
