He is like wind

Sometimes God comes like a wind.  In John 3 Jesus describes the move of the Spirit like wind.  He says 7Do not be amazed that I said, ‘You must be born again.’ 8The wind blows where it wishes. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.  When God moves in the hearts of people or in a place, it is uncontrollable and uncontainable.  So many times people want to label or program a move of God, but those people do not have an understanding of His ways.  Just because God used one person, method or place in the past, does not mean he will do it the same way the next time.  It is unusual that when Jesus healed, he used different ways.  Sometimes He just spoke the word, other times he asked the sick person to do something they could not do before such as "take up your bed and walk", sometimes people touched him and the power came out, and still other times he used something like dirt to spit on and rub on a blind man's eyes.  God's ways are not like mans'--in fact they are strange to the human mind.  Isaiah 28:21 says it this way "The LORD will come as he did against the Philistines at Mount Perazim and against the Amorites at Gibeon. He will come to do a strange thing; he will come to do an unusual deed."  No matter what the Spirit of God does, there is results but no one can predict who, where or how the miracle will occur.  God is like wind because you cannot see Him, but you know when He is there by the results that take place.

It is important for the individual to be led by the Lord in their personal walk with the Holy Spirit.  Sometimes this is due to dangers God knows that He is trying to protect us from by a warning.  In 1 John 2 the apostle says in cautioning of antichrists 20"You, however, have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. Other times the Spirit will nudge our hearts to give, study, pray, fast, speak a word, go a place, or even make a business move because of an unknown blessing He wants us to uncover whether in souls, healings, deliverances, or a financial blessing. When God moves it is undeniable and unexplainable.  Sometimes God's whispers do not make sense and we cannot explain their human reason, but afterwards the path is so clear and fruitful that people have to notice that God was in it.  God sees ahead what man cannot see, so we must rely upon Him for His leading by the inner witness of the Holy Spirit who leads us into all truth.  Jesus says this of the Holy Spirit in John 14; 16And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you do know Him, for He abides with you and He will be in you."  As we yield to God's voice He reveals to us Who He is and what He wants to do.  As we are sensitive to Him, He uses us to do His works that bring glory to His name because He is the only one that can take credit since it did not come from human wisdom and achievement.

God comes like wind when people are seeking Him in unity--this gives God a climate or atmosphere conducive to His presence.  In Acts 2 it happened like this: "1When the day of Pentecost came, the believers were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a sound like a mighty rushing wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3They saw tongues like flames of a fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them."  God is attracted to a fellowship of believers that are walking in love, hungry for more of Him, and open to the infilling of His Spirit that Jesus promised.  When He fills the House He sweeps in with mighty power taking hold of His own so they can operate in the gifts of the Spirit for the sake of winning a harvest of souls.  He baptizes His church with such a presence and power of His Spirit that they overflow and operate from that overflow.  When He moves, it is not work to win souls or see kingdom results but the supernatural becomes effortless.  The life of the believer is forever changed.  Organized religion, government, and family allegiances bow to what God wants to do and all sense of normalcy is replaced with an exciting moment by moment encounter.  In this way, the move of God is unforgettable and unpredictable.

The Hebrew word for wind "Ruach" coincides with the word breath.  In Isaiah 11:5 it says of the Lord: "4 with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked." In Ezekiel 37 when the bones came to life, wind was involved.  The prophet was told to 9Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they come to life.” 10So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army."  It is interesting that the breath of God can bring wind that can both destroy the wicked and bring life to the dead.  God will crush anything that stands against Him and His army.  He can use even what is dead by bringing it to life for His purpose.  It is what He did with those of us who are His own. God will move how He wants to move and when He does man has to get out of the way.  He will sweep aside every opposition and barrier to accomplish His will and nothing will stand in His way.  This demonstration of power will turn hearts towards Him to dread and fear Him and to recognize He alone is God.   His move is unconquerable and unstoppable.

The winds of God are directional: north, south, east, west.  The scripture refers to the four winds of the earth holding back judgment in Revelation 7:1 “I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree.”  In  Jeremiah 10:13 it shows that God controls the wind.  It says "When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, And He causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain, And brings out the wind from His storehouses."  These passages show the divine order and placement of His Spirit and how He moves.  From beginning to end despite what man or the enemy does in the earth realm, God determines where and how the winds will blow.  As the people marveled when Jesus stilled the storm in Mark 4:41 "Even the wind and waves obey Him." So God shows Himself as untameable and unrestrainable because He determines events, times, and kings before they even happen and this shows He is sovereign and over all.

In conclusion, the winds of God are blowing.  It is important that the church or individual does not try to put God in a certain timeframe or way of moving.  This can shut off His freedom of operation.  Walking with God is an adventure.  He rarely does the same thing twice and He is full of surprises often not bringing the full revelation until the last minute.  We must raise up our sails like a sailboat and go with the wind of the Spirit as we go about our day.  This makes for an exhilarating ride and is much easier and more fun than laboring the oars of dead religion and human effort and understanding.  Open your heart to the winds of the Spirit this hour.  Give Him permission to Blow in you and on you and through you.  You will be amazed where He carries you and how He uses you.  In the end you will feel like the third party just watching Him move, but it will be your hands that are giving, your mouth that is speaking and your feet that are stepping and all you will be able to do is give glory to His name.
